Ghost in the Machine 2016

Last year, Eisa began a proud tradition of annual Halloween events with a series of three spooky story nights. While three was perhaps too much for anyone to handle, we're renewing the tradition this Saturday, October 29th, for another year. The campfire will be lit at 3 PM SLT and continue burning until we're all out of tales to tell. And at the end, the story voted best by those present will receive a cash prize. Get writing now, so you'll be able to tell your story quickly and gracefully when the time comes.

(Note that only original stories will be eligible for the cash prize; while you're welcome to bring SCPs, creepypasta, and the like to add to the atmosphere, we've read them all and won't take kindly to plagiarism in the contest.)

And don't think this event isn't for you just because you're not a writer or don't feel like writing! We need voters, and every audience member will be welcome to help find the best story. It'll be great fun!

Mysteries of Autumn on Eisa

By Samantha Bimbeaux, a.k.a. H3L

Some of you may be wondering why I've been... absent for the last few months. Some of you might be thinking 'Who are you and what are you doing in my house?' Sadly, I can't answer the latter question for you. The former, however, is a very complicated matter. Suffice it to say that I have returned after a great number of trials and some unorthodox personal growth. With that out of the way, let's get started.

With the onset of the autumn seasons here on our little slice of the cosmos, it comes as no surprise to see things taking a turn for the unusual. Unfortunately, this particular year seems to be turning a little too far. Glowing green rifts have been popping up around town and spewing small, wandering globs of light into our reality. Evidence says that these green holes in space are rifts to another dimension. Further study (and by further study, I mean taking several pot shots at some with a plasma pistol) shows that both the floating lights and the portals they spawn from are easily destroyed by concentrated weapons fire.

This Halloween season, so your part in keeping your hometown beautiful. Take your sweetheart out for a night on the town, have dinner, take in a show, and vent your frustrations on our uninvited guests with your favorite gun.

I know I'm going to.

Severe Weather Warning

Things have been quiet on Eisa for the past few months; perhaps too quiet. As of 3 AM this morning, mysterious turquoise rifts have been opening up all over the colony, emitting drones that appear hostile towards people and robots alike and have even fired some sort of blue plasma at them. These portals continue to spawn offspring, only to vanish a minute or so later. This strange manifestation has been accompanied by a persistent, choking fog. Colonists are advised to remain indoors, or to seek shelter, and to not attempt to leave Eisa until the matter is resolved.

This development comes at a particular bad time for transit, too; with recent solar flare activity at the highest it has ever been observed from the Purple Pearl, almost all transit to and from the colony, save for one weekly shuttle, has been suspended. Rumors have been circulating that the colony administrators will offer substantial rewards to anyone who assists in the effort to defend the colony against these rifts. They appear to be susceptible to weapons fire.

A Look At Someone New

by Samantha Bimbeaux

Of all that's been going on in our little corner of the cosmos, of all the new people to suddenly call Eisa home for good or for only a while, what do we truly know about them? How do we know that we, as a community can trust them and call them one of our own?

Well, I took the opportunity to get to know one of our new guests, namely Ensign Syd Montague of the Mars Alliance Navy. Military personnel are often seen as gruff and somewhat intimidating, but you would be surprised at how interesting they can be. Syd, in particular, has been through a great deal personally. He's even fought Soviets on Planeta De La Jose Cuervo! Even with his humble origins and a number of unpleasant experiences and tragedies, he still retains a pleasant and sometimes abrasive and brutally honest demeanor.

All in all, the people coming to our world are not to be feared. A little distrust at first is normal, but don't be afraid to get to know the newcomers. You'd be surprised at what you might learn.

Hospital Clean-Up

At 2100 hours’ local time an Alliance Navy Hazard Assessment and Recovery team will be deployed at the old clinic to begin clean-up and containment of potential hazardous materials from the structure and surrounding area.

Please be aware that this may cause delays to ground traffic as roadblocks and checkpoints will be in use to ensure the safety of civilians and Alliance personnel working on-site. Local business in the area of operation will also be shut down temporarily as a secondary precaution. Foot traffic to and through the area will also be restricted, so plan accordingly.

Thank you for your cooperation while we work to make Eisa Colony safer.

AN's Landing On Eisa

by Samantha Bimbeaux

The recent landing of the Alliance Navy, commonly known as AN, has cause some commotion with their sudden appearance here on Eisa. One might assume that a military presence is nothing but trouble, but so far this has been completely to the contrary. Their stated mission is nothing more than conducting military exercises and keeping the colony safe in exchange for certain raw materials.

In a show of their goodwill toward the colony, the possibility of cleaning and repairing the old hospital building is being discussed. After the incident that rendered the building uninhabitable two months ago, I don't think it needs saying how good having a place for people to receive proper medical treatment again will be for the colony.

New World, New Home

by Samantha Bimbeaux

We all know the pains of moving from one house to another. Packing, hauling, driving, unpacking... It's a pain that most people would love to never experience. Picking up and moving across town is a chore, but across the galaxy?

That, my friends, is a nightmare.

It's not all bad, though. The change in living space often comes with myriad new experiences. New cultures and sights to see, alien flora and fauna to discover, it's an amazing and enriching experience! Eisa, the world I now call home, is one such place. It was only recently terraformed and colonized by the young conglomerate, Nanite Systems, and has all the feel of an offworld resort with the joy of home in one place.

Moving here has been a fine choice for me. The people are friendly, the city safe and pleasant, and the view? Amazing! If moving isn't in the cards, then at least take a vacation and relax. You'll be better for it.

explosion at NSMS; damaged police droid battery leads to colony evacuation; grey goo outbreak narrowly averted; dr. wright recovering in hospital

An explosion at Nanite Systems Medical Services, formerly Eisa General Hospital, rocked the colony yesterday as Dr. Wright, CTO of Nanite Systems, and DAX/2 LY-N13L, acting chief of NanoSec, were performing a CT scan on a robot that had recently arrived on the colony. KÖNIG, a HELIC caninoid unit produced for mixed personal defense and combat roles, arrived from an unknown port with damaged memories shortly before a bomb threat was made against the colony administrators. Sources close to Dr. Wright suggest smugglers at Botany Bay may be involved in this latest attempted attack on the company.

It appears the bomb threat is over: despite receiving a substantial dose of radiation from the malfunctioning CT scanner, Dr. Wright emerged mostly unscathed after its untimely detonation. The device had been embedded somewhere in the HELIC unit's chest cavity; remarkably, the robot itself survived the incident. A cleanup effort to remove the debris from the accident site was soon underway.

Another robot, however, was not so lucky: LY-N13L sustained a crack in its power cell, resulting in a twin nightmare: the risk of an unchecked nuclear criticality event and the uncontrollable spread of reaction maintenance nanites. An emergency evacuation of the colony was ordered, with ships as distant as the Kojima Industries Alhambra responding to transport colonists and robots to Eisa Station as quickly as possible.

After half an hour of feverish work in a bomb suit, Dr. Wright herself determined that there was no risk of criticality, but that the reaction nanites were in fact very active and posed a serious threat to the entire moon. Despite being exposed to the nanites directly, she was able to trigger a series of ultra-strong EMP blasts that effectively stopped the nanites in their tracks.

Dr. Wright was in critical condition in the remaining wards of NSMS for several hours last night, attended by Ms. Peluso and several medical units. She is now stable and recovering.

Until further notice, all medical emergencies should be directed to NS-304 Mochi for transit off-world. The NS Medical Services building has been deemed unsafe for further use and is scheduled for demolition in the coming months.
