She always had a desire to travel and see the solar system, and a knack for working with robots feed right into her hopes and dreams. So she graduated early and got the fastest certifications she could from a nearby college to get a job in space.
Her suburban upbringing did not prepare Amy for just how harsh the real world actually is and taking after her first interviews for ship positions she got a single offer, over all the standard rate ones, that was much higher paying and with seemingly every possible benefit. It was of course too good to be true, once the crime family had her in their clutches she was brought into the classic crime cycle of Favor/Obligation that takes you deeper and deeper away from any seeming way out. Something happened on her last ship, and now her knowledge of the syndicate's dealings have become a loose end....
She was offered a simple deal. Have an 'airlock accident' or take an offer to serve out a 15 year indenture on one of the Family's household starships, a position that would require her to undergo gene mods to 'fit in' as one of the Family's catgirl crew. She chose to take the out, any life is better than death. But a rare complication with the surgeries anesthesia left her technically dead in the OR for a little over 3 minutes, and she awoke with significantly reduced cognitive function. After a few weeks or recovery and testing the Family made the decision to sell of AmyTrouble's indenture contract to Ophelia Lovelace, founder of Aphrodite Ministries, to settle some old debt.
While she's probably no longer capable to be a ship's crew, Amy hasn't lost any of her deft touch with robotics or delicate electronic and synthetic systems, but she does tend to loose focus and wander off during her work, or make 'upgrades' where none were need or asked for. last updated: 2024-10-20 21:30:41
