Green skies are coming

Bizarre weather is quickly becoming a staple of Eisa.

Meteorologists believe that the turquoise-green cloud currently blanketing the colony and raining what appears to be cyan-colored snow over our streets is the culmination of the spawning process of a form of unknown algae mat which reconnaissance has detected far off the shore, to the west of the archipelago. Biologists are calling this a once-in-a-lifetime event, most likely triggered by the unusual severity of the typhoon that passed over the colony a few weeks prior. The spores are believed to be harmless so far and are much too large to inhale, but dust filters should be installed over any exposed ventilation systems, including DAX/2 and SXD units, to ensure optimal and safe continued operation.

Do you like Halloween? No? Too bad! Eisa needs you anyway! All throughout the month of October we'll be running a mishmash of various events sure to send chills down your spine, including ghost story nights, costume contests, treasure hunts, and more! Stay tuned for more updates.

NanoSec Chief Wrath Mordkamm missing; sector police on high alert

After only four months since its re-opening, the offices at NanoSec Eisa are once more unlit.

Earlier this morning, Wrath vanished, taking with her a colony shuttle, enough emergency rations to last six months, half the department's budget for the next year, and several state-of-the-art weapons systems, also belonging to NanoSec. Forensic psychologist Dr. Ai Santei believes it was some sort of relapse.

"Well I suppose [...] we can't completely rule out the possibility of some sort of relapse. It's obvious that her priorities have suddenly shifted violently and that she no longer regards Eisa as a comfortable place to work—or even a safe place for that matter. Unless she's gone off to settle some sort of grudge I expect we'll hear in a few years that she's settled down somewhere distant and has calmed down."

Anna Wrath Mordkamm was born in Berlin as the cold war came to a close and tensions between the communist DDR and democratic government of Western Germany were at an all-time high. A child of the suburbs, her parents had no difficulty in sending her to university, but her ambitions lay elsewhere; within a few months of graduation, she had found herself in the military—but this was not to last, as a serious injury led to a double-arm amputation. To Wrath, this was surely a serious blow; friends we were able to interview explained that she received third-degree burns over most of her arms following the failure and explosion of an experimental engine design; unfortunately the German military has refused to release any details on the hardware in question.

While hospitalized, Anna (then already "Wrath" to her friends) must have faced a serious personal crisis as she was deprived of the opportunity to pursue her career of choice. We can only speculate on what caused her to pursue military duty immediately after finishing her university degree, but it is clear that her decision to earn her police training certification emerged as she was recovering from the implantation of her prosthetic arms.

She was a successful police officer for two years after this, as often noted by her colleagues and supervisors, but it was clear she was not satisfied with her work. Friends described her as bored, and perhaps a little haunted by the military career she was forced to abandon by her injuries. An escape for her came in 2006, when PPV Galactic's private security department took her on, offering her vastly superior pay, the opportunity to get off-world, and superior implants and prosthetics to the set she had used as a police officer.

But, according to Dr. Santei, it was the fire that defined her.

"To be honest, I'm very upset that she was allowed near SXD y0ko at all," Dr. Santei explained, speaking from her apartment on the upper tier late on Monday morning. "It's obvious that there's something in Wrath's past—whether it was the fire, something that happened while she was working in private security, or perhaps some event during college that ultimately motivated her to pursue such an austere, aggressive career—it's clear that she was always very troubled. Being expected to care for an SXD like that—one of the most vulnerable members of our society—is almost certainly a recipe for disaster."

As for whether we'll ever see her again, colony co-administrator Dr. Samantha Wright, who was working closely with Wrath on getting to the bottom of a recent bomb scare, is hesitant.

"I'm, er, well... Maybe? I respect her decision to move on; I really do. It's not easy to put up with what she's been through, and really I blame myself for not getting to know her better first before placing so many expectations on her. But that's really an endemic issue of security forces, isn't it? You have to grow a team, and you have to be able to trust that team a lot more than you would with, say, a research team or a sales team. There's a very personal story that has to develop there," she explained to Eisa Monthly early this afternoon. "I just hope she finds a way to keep herself happy."

REAL ESTATE MARKET COLLAPSES

administrators announce new housing policy

In a shocking twist of events late on Sunday night, NS CEO Tamara Peluso announced that revenue from mineral extraction was adequate to subsidize Eisa Colony’s entire operating budget until 3015. “Income projections were showing that it would actually be more profitable to lure in poor, easily exploitable labour than it would be to charge for the housing,” she said Monday morning. “And foreseeing everyone else whining about free housing for poor people, it only made sense to make ALL housing free. I mean, we're making enough money to run an entire mine off the backs of a half dozen poor Russians, so why not encourage more of them to move in? What do you mean, that's all you need? I haven't even gotten to the new fish extermination squads we'll be funding!"

As income from rentals in Eisa has been minimal and arguably an impediment to development of a sense of community, we've decided to abolish them for the foreseeable future in favour of vetted rental applications. Existing renters are free to continue carrying on with their business with no changes or further payments, but will be bound by the new terms of the rental agreement, which will be available in the coming days, along with the new rental application.

The primary rule is this: as long as you don't abuse sim resources and the admin team feels you've been a consistent asset to the RP environment at Eisa, you'll be free to maintain up to a certain LI of possessions on the sim as long as you're still roleplaying. (This will require advance notice for long-term absences, a procedure we'll also put in place.) If completely abandoned, rentals will expire, and we will have terms for dealing with what we feel are inappropriate uses, but as there are a lot of you who have more or less made Eisa you homes, it seems almost wrong not to let you actually make Eisa your home.

This is a bit of an experiment for us—we can't guarantee that things will be this way forever. If the system is obviously abused we may reinstate a nominal fee to keep out problematic behaviour, and we don't expect it to be without its bumps and scrapes. But it wouldn't be Eisa if we didn't take weird altruistic risks.

HEAVY STORM WARNING

A typhoon has been building to the west of the Colony for several weeks, and it appears we're directly in its path. Residents of the lower level are strongly encouraged to make temporary evacuation plans, either to the Nanite Systems building or to the upper tier, for the next few days. Able-bodied robots and citizens are strongly encouraged to report to colony administration to volunteer for helping to secure key infrastructure during the typhoon. Flood waters as high as 5m above sea level are expected, as well as wind gusts over 200 km/h.

Eisa's equatorial belt, where the colony is located, is currently experiencing the heaviest rainy season on record. This is the second major storm we have had in the past few months, and it is likely that as the year progresses we will see even more severe challenges.

CAPTURED: Naomi MacKenna-Nakamura

NanoSec Officer Pat Rennard apprehended MacKenna-Nakamura late Sunday afternoon, in the city park just north of the Nanite Systems building. The heiress of the disgraced MacKenna-Nakamura Heavy Industries empire, Naomi was wanted in connection with a string of crimes, including impersonating a Nanite Systems employee, forging documents, attempted vehicle theft, and resisting arrest. Her trial has not yet been scheduled. If convicted, she could be sentenced to up to ten years hard labor.

job posting: Indigo Bay Geological Survey

Colony administrators Peluso and Wright are looking for geologists, geographers, botanists, and ecologists to send on a mission to explore the islands surrounding Eisa Colony. The first phase of the survey is expected to last a week and will disembark when enough qualified people have signed up.

The actual surveying will, for the time being at least, take place off screen. Roleplayers will be expected to compile a document from rough worldbuilding notes provided by sim staff.
